Disobedient Buildings

DoB_logo_SOCIAL.jpg

At Oxford University, I have co-written the Disobedient Buildings project and have secured funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, together with Dr Inge Daniels. DoB is a multi-sited research project which consists of a comparative, visual ethnography of creative practices of care and maintenance inside one block of flats in three European countries.

Central to the project is a participatory, comparative exhibition that examines how ordinary citizens experience welfare and wellbeing on the ground. The concept and content of the show will be based on the analysis of data and materials gathered during 12 months of empirical research in high-rise buildings by Dr Inge Daniels in the UK, Dr Gabriela Nicolescu in Romania and Dr Anna Urlikke Anderson in Sweden and Norway. The exhibition will generate new thinking beyond the initial research context by enabling multiple creative collaborations and cross-fertilisations with a wide range of stakeholders - research participants, academics, museum professionals, urban planners, architects, policy makers and the general public - that continue long after the exhibition has finished.
